Double Suction Split Case Pump, as the name implies, is a type of centrifugal pump where liquid enters the impeller from both sides simultaneously. Its core design feature is that the pump casing is split horizontally along the shaft centerline, forming separable upper and lower halves. This structure is commonly referred to as a "split case" type. This design allows internal components such as the impeller, shaft, and seals to be accessed for inspection and maintenance without disconnecting the pump from the piping, greatly facilitating routine operation and upkeep.
In terms of its working principle, the double suction split case pump is a type of centrifugal pump. When the pump starts, the motor drives the impeller to rotate at high speed. Liquid enters simultaneously from the suction inlets on both sides of the impeller. Under the action of centrifugal force, the liquid is thrown towards the outer edge of the impeller. It then passes through the volute-shaped pump chamber, where its kinetic energy is converted into pressure energy, and is finally discharged from the pump outlet. Because the liquid enters symmetrically from both sides, the axial hydraulic forces acting on the impeller are essentially balanced. This significantly improves the running stability of the pump shaft and bearings, thereby extending the equipment's service life.
Compared to single suction pumps, the main advantage of the double suction structure lies in its greater flow capacity. Given the same impeller outer diameter and rotational speed, a double suction pump can achieve nearly twice the flow rate of a single suction pump. Furthermore, due to the self-balancing of axial forces, pump vibration and noise are better controlled, ensuring smoother operation. This makes double suction split case pumps particularly suitable for high-flow, low-head application scenarios.
