Valin Xiangtan Steel 5-meter wide plate mill pump energy-saving retrofit project | Xiangtan, Hunan

Application scenario: Valin Xiangtan Steel 5-meter wide plate mill (world’s largest wide plate base), 15 pump sets across stations 11# and 12#, covering reheating furnace clean circulating water, laminar cooling turbid water, high-pressure descaling, heat treatment soft water, and cyclone pit slag flushing systems. High humidity and rainfall in Xiangtan, iron oxide sediment in water, scaling at high temperature, fluctuating rolling loads; water loss causes direct damage to rolls and steel plates. Before retrofit, S/SAP pumps had efficiency 72%–76%, throttling losses accounted for over 25%, cast iron impellers wore through in 3–5 months, carbon steel components rusted and seized in humid conditions.

Solution content: M&W ENERGY SAVING adopted in-situ replacement low-cost retrofit, replacing only three-dimensional flow impellers, seal rings, and shaft sleeves while retaining original motor base; single station downtime ≤3 days. Laminar XS double-suction split case pumps (3500–5200 m³/h / 60–75 m, variable frequency linked rolling mill automatic control), DG heat treatment soft water pumps (316L + PLAN23 mechanical seals), 2507 duplex steel long-shaft slag flushing pumps. Wetted parts with graded anti‑scaling and corrosion resistance (304/2507), stainless fasteners, CFD hydraulic simulation + online monitoring and warning system.

Project results: Annual energy saving over 420,000 kWh, electricity cost savings over 2.4 million RMB, standard coal saving ~1300 tons; overhaul frequency reduced by 70%, maintenance cost saving 750,000 RMB/year. In-situ replacement model is replicable to similar production lines such as Liansteel and Nanjing Steel.
