Routine Maintenance Guide for Split Case Pumps
Split case pumps are widely used general-purpose equipment. To ensure stable operation and extend their service life,
regular maintenance is essential. Daily care mainly includes pre-operation checks, monitoring during operation,
and scheduled maintenance.
1.Pre-Operation Checks
1.1 Visual Inspection
Check for damage, cracks, or deformation on the pump casing
Ensure the nameplate information is clear and correct
Make sure all bolts, especially at connection points, are tight
1.2 Lubrication Check
Verify that grease or lubricating oil is sufficient and clean
Replace oil if it’s degraded or contains impurities
1.3 Manual Shaft Rotation
Coupling should rotate freely by hand
If there’s resistance or abnormal noise, check for obstructions or damaged parts
2.Maintenance During Operation
2.1 Monitoring Operating Parameters
Ensure flow and head are within rated ranges
Watch for abnormal pressure fluctuations at the pump outlet
Monitor temperature of bearings and motor (typically should not exceed 70–90°C)
2.2 Vibration and Noise Checks
Use a vibration meter to check if vibrations are within the standard range
Abnormal noise could indicate loose components, friction, or cavitation
2.3 Seal Inspection
Mechanical seals: Should show no visible leakage
Packing seals: A few drops per minute are acceptable; excessive leakage requires adjustment or replacement
3.Scheduled Maintenance
3.1 Cleaning the Pump
emove dirt, scale, and debris from the pump interior and exterior
Especially important when handling corrosive or particle-laden media
3.2 Component Inspection and Replacement
Impeller: Check for wear, corrosion, or cavitation—replace if needed
Bearings: Replace every 1–3 years depending on conditions
Seals: Replace mechanical seals every 1–2 years; check packing seals every 3–6 months
3.3 Electrical System Maintenance
Ensure motor wiring is secure and insulation is intact
Use a megohmmeter to check insulation resistance
Verify that starters and protection devices function correctly
Summary
Proper maintenance ensures high-efficiency pump operation. Regular inspections of lubrication, seals,
vibration, electricals, and key operating parameters can prevent failures, extend equipment life, and reduce operational costs.
